Obituary of Marion Kathleen Van Otterloo

Marion Van Otterloo (Headrick) passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, at the age of 82 in Medicine Hat, AB at the Good Samaritan Society’s South Ridge Village, her home for the last 2 years.

 

Marion was born in Brooks, AB on April 27, 1941, to Thomas & Elsie Headrick, a sister for Kenneth, Gordon, and Alfred. They lived on a farm east of town before moving into Brooks. Her first job was at Philpot Honey, where she met Eimert Van Otterlooo, her future brother-in-law.

 

On March 19th, 1960 she married John Van Otterloo and they moved to Oyen, AB where they had their two children, Cindy and Thomas. She had a varied career, working at the hospital, for the town, at the high school, and managing the bottle depot.

 

Marion loved serving her community. She was elected to a term on town council and was a member of the Kinnette club, where she enjoyed the gatherings and her Kin family. After fully retiring, she joined the Border Quilters Club, where she was able to showcase her creative talents.

 

Marion is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband John Van Otterloo, daughter Cindy Gooodine and her husband Kevin, daughter-in-law Karyn Heggestad, granddaughters: Darmidy Goodine, Casey Collinge, Kallie Caskey and Kayci Caskey, sister-in-law Theresa Headrick. Nieces: Kim Headrick, Denyse (Headrick) Grieger, nephews: Wes Headrick,  Chris Headrick, Terry Headrick and her large extended family and group of friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Elsie Headrick, brothers Kenneth & wife Louise Headrick, Alfred Headrick and Gordon Headrick, son Thomas Van Otterloo, grandson Dylan Goodine and nephew David Headrick
